Embark vs Wisdom panel accuracy…Which is the more accurate dog DNA test?

Embark vs Wisdom Panel…which is better? I was wondering the same thing…and did both!

If you’re considering a Dog DNA Test, but not sure which one to invest in, read on. I will break down which is my favorite: Embark DNA VS Wisdom Panel.

For context, here is my dog Ziggy who I did the Dog DNA Test…can you guess his breed(s)?

Wisdom Panel DNA Test

I personally ran the Wisdom Panel DNA test back in 2016; so full disclaimer, Wisdom Panel could’ve added more breeds since then. That being said, I was a bit disappointed that I paid so much money for very few results.

As you can see, the results seemed quite uninformative. Ziggy’s predominant poodle ancestry didn’t come as a shock, but the Miniature Pinscher revelation did raise an eyebrow. However, I must admit, most of the analysis seemed to be grouped together under the blatantly unhelpful label of ‘mixed-breed groups’.

Embark Dog DNA Test

Now let’s look at the Embark Vet Dog DNA + Health Results! See below – you can see the results are much more detailed. I hesitated to take another DNA test because I’d already invested in one back in 2016, and had also tested my second dog Waffles.

That said, I’m immensely thankful I made the investment, as this time around, the results from Embark were more comprehensive and enlightening than ever before.

I also paid extra for the health results – I was glad to see that Ziggy didn’t have any genetic markers that made him more susceptible to any diseases.

Another thing I loved about Embark is that they kept me in the loop the entire time. The results did take longer than Wisdom Panel, but having a more detailed breed report was 100% worth it!

All in all, I was really happy to pay the slightly higher price tag for the Embark Vet test. Overall, it seemed more accurate, and I love all of the extra details they provide.

They also offer an age test which I am saving for next, as I’d love to know Ziggy’s actual, real, birthday! I know he is around 9 years old, but don’t know when his birthday is!

By the way, have you ever tried a DNA test for your dog? If so, which test kit did you use – Embark, Wisdom Panel, or something else? I’d love to know more about your experience – feel free to drop it in the comments! Whichever you decide to use, I do highly recommend getting the accompanying health information, which provides so much data!
