Finding the best DOG CBD Oil

What is the best dog CBD?

This is a smart question to ask, as not all dog CBD products are created equal.

CBD can not only help dogs with anxiety, it can also help with:

  • Joint problems
  • Cancer
  • Seizures
  • Pain
  • Allergies

The issue is, CBD for pets is unregulated…meaning, brands can completely lie about the CBD content inside the bottle.

In fact The first time I read about the benefits of CBD, I was super excited to try it on my dogs but was disappointed when it really didn’t do anything. And this is something I see many people also say in the reviews of these calming products.

But then,  I was gifted some expensive pet CBD that worked SO well on not only my own dogs, but my client’s dogs as well…

So I started doing some research and learning how to tell whether a certain CBD is good or just junk. And don’t worry, I’m going to share what I’ve learned + what my favorite CBD is below.

How to Know if a CBD is the Best Dog CBD

Making sure the company does third party testing & has a certificate of analysis.

You want to make sure that whatever company you’re purchasing dog CBD from has a third, unbiased party doing testing. This is an example of the COA from my favorite CBD, Petals & Tails.

COA from Petals & Tails

If you can’t readily find one on the dog CBD’s website, you can always ASK the company if they have one they provide to potential customers as well.

First things first – you’ll want to make sure that what they’re advertising = the amount of CBD in the COA.

Petals & Tails is the dog CBD oil I use (along with All Paws Essentials…I love em too!) – and you can see the # of mg match the bottle.

Full or broad spectrum CBD

Full or broad spectrum just mean’s your dog’s CBD oil contains other cannabinoids that occur naturally like CBC, and CBG, as well as terpenes. This creates an entourage effect making your dog’s CBD oil much more effective. There are studies on individual cannabinoids, but CBG has been found to help with pain, and CBC has been found in some studies to help with cancer.

Make sure your dog’s CBD company uses CO2 Extraction

C02 extraction is where they will use carbon dioxide to extract the oil from the plant. C02 extraction is a more expensive way to extract CBD, but the alternative method is solvent extraction. While solvent extraction is typically cheaper, many companies will use propane or butane and that residue can be toxic to your dog.

THC Content OF DOG CBD Should be Under .03%

Even if you enjoy the high, your dog will not. In fact, being high can be traumatic for your dog. Make sure the THC level is under .03% so your dog doesn’t get high. Avoid 0% THC, as a small bit of THC will help build the ‘entourage effect’ making your dog’s CBD more effective (without getting them high!)

Check for pesticides and heavy metals

Unfortunately, CBD does absorb toxins, pesticides, and heavy metals like a sponge. We want to make sure none of that is being consumed by our dogs.

What I love about Petals and Tails is that they also have a variety of other CBD products, like Peanut Butter CBD. The fat in the peanut butter can help with absorption.

Other dog cbd tips

Try to give your dog their CBD on as empty of a stomach as possible. It’s very unlikely your dog will want to eat the CBD straight from the tincture, so a few small treats mixed in is ideal. Fat can also help with absorption, so you can try mixing the CBD in with peanut butter.

If you’re unsure of dosing, or whether a dog CBD will interact with your dog’s medications, double check with your vet. In fact, CBD can make certain medications or supplements less effective.
