Personal Video Reviews

Record your training sessions at home and submit them for feedback (up to 2 videos per week, 16 total).

This personalized feedback sets our course apart from all others. Without expert insights, you might unknowingly hinder your dog's progress or miss out on crucial guidance to stay on the right track. Many trainers either advance too quickly or prematurely abandon effective techniques simply because they lack confirmation. Our feedback ensures you’re always moving forward with confidence, knowing exactly when to adjust or persist in your training efforts.

"Lisa is the most wonderful dog trainer! We are SO grateful for her and all her help. We started training with Lisa with our puppy, and with her training, we now have a wonderfully trained dog! Lisa helped train our dog, Peaches, beyond our expectations. We were feeling a bit hopeless before Lisa came, but now Peaches is fully potty trained, she's a great walker, knows so many commands, and plays well with other dogs!"

"Lisa is such an amazing trainer! She has helped me through the process of training my service dog and I couldn’t have done it without her. Before I started working with Lisa, my SD had anxiety around loud noises in public spaces and with the help of Lisa, I am now able to take my SD with me without having to worry about her getting spooked. My dog is now calm in public and is able to assist me with my disability in a much more beneficial way. I am so grateful to have had Lisa as a trainer and I highly recommend her for any owner/handler who is looking for some help with their dog!"

My kid and their service dog couldn‘t have succeeded and done what they did without Lisa‘s generous help. I highly recommend her for any training. No matter whether you need help with a puppy, doing basic training, whether it is remedial training for something or whether it is service dog training. Lisa does a great job with it all.

- Alyssa & Kip

"I really encourage others to find a dedicated trainer who is as passionate as Lisa. I am really lucky she is was willing to work with us via zoom and share her expertise via her online course. Her online course we use repeatedly for reinforcement of techniques to train our beagle.

How long will it take to get my dog trained to be a qualified service animal under the ADA?

Every dog is unique, and every handler's journey is different. This course focuses on building a strong foundation by training your dog to be focused anytime, anywhere. The pace at which you and your dog progress will depend on factors such as your dog’s temperament, your consistency, and the time you can dedicate to training.

While some dogs may show significant progress within a few weeks, others might take longer. The key is to stay patient and committed to the process.

Remember, the ultimate goal is not just speed, but ensuring that your dog becomes a reliable and well-behaved companion, ready to assist you whenever needed.

There has NEVER been a better time to begin the process of self-training of your future service dog.

Why start today rather than wait until you're less busy?

Our dogs are constantly learning, for better or for worse. The longer your dog "practices" undesirable behaviors, the harder they become to modify later on.

Just like breaking a bad habit, it takes more effort and time to undo ingrained behaviors.

The best time to start training your dog was before you even brought them home; the second best time is right now.

Does my dog even have what it takes to be a service dog?

Not all dogs are destined to become service dogs; however, delaying training only decreases their chances.

The worst-case scenario? You’ll develop a stronger bond with your dog, they'll benefit from expert-guided training, and you’ll have a well-trained companion regardless of their service dog potential.

Also, this course will help you quickly determine whether you + your dog have the potential to be a successful service dog team, saving you time and effort.

How do I know I'm ready to self-train my own service dog?

Self-training a service dog isn't the best option for everyone - no shame either way, but here's how you'll know whether this course is right for you...

You are ready for this course if...

  • You're willing to put the time into training your dog and are ready to get guidance from an experienced trainer
  • Are open to asking for help in the SKOOL community if something isn't clicking for you and your dog
  • You know that self-training your service dog will take patience and are willing to put in the time and energy
  • You have a qualified disability as defined under the ADA
  • You are willing to ask for help (even if it's scary!)
  • You understand that every dog is a unique individual (just like you!) and that it is never guaranteed your dog will make it as a service dog.

You are not ready for this course if...

  • You think purchasing the course will magically make your dog better without actually training or implementing what you learn
  • You're stuck on methods that have been proven to be outdated like 'dominating' your pup using force (we use force-free methods)
  • If something doesn't work, you immediately go into 'blame other humans (or the dog)' mode and easily give up without asking for help
  • You can't physically and/or emotionally put in any work (Not a bad thing, as there are other options! See below)

You've got a few choices when it comes to self-training a service dog...

1. You can spend a LOT of money working with a trainer (which can be a great option for those who can afford it).

2. You can obtain an already-trained service dog from a service dog organization (typically many years on a waitlist)

3. You can keep piecing together different resources and videos you find online, wondering if you're on the right track...

Empower Yourself with a Confidently Trained Service Dog

...even without a trainer ever seeing your dog in person!

"BUT...I NEED A TRAINER IN PERSON"

Our course provides personalized feedback on your training videos, allowing us to offer tailored guidance specific to your dog's needs. This flexibility ensures you receive expert advice from the comfort of your home.

"I AM TOO BUSY"

Even an already-trained service dog requires time to adjust to a new handler and ongoing maintenance training. While self-training is a commitment, it strengthens the bond with your dog and allows you to learn valuable skills together, making the process rewarding and effective. Many handlers report enjoying the time they spend training with their dog.

"MY DOG ISN'T READY"

Our Level 1 course includes an initial assessment to determine your dog's readiness and starts with foundational skills.

This ensures that both you and your dog begin at the right level and progress at a comfortable pace.

FAQs

When does the course begin and end?

The course modules are pre-recorded so it can begin and end when you'd like. You'll submit your video feedback in SKOOL as you move through the course at your own page.

How long do I have access?

While you have lifetime access to the content of the course, you will need to submit all videos for feedback within 3 months. If I ever add content/bonuses, you will receive access to that as well.

What is the time commitment?

I recommend setting 10-30 minutes per day dedicated to training; however, your dog is always learning. When you're eating your AM bagel, you may not be "officially training" but if you slide your pup a piece of your breakfast for jumping on the counter...guess what? You just trained your dog to jump on the counter!

Do you offer more advanced courses?

Yes! Students who complete the foundations service dog training course have the opportunity to enroll in our advanced course: "public access prep."

What is the refund policy?

Unfortunately, I do not offer refunds due to the digital nature of this course.

My name is Lisa Gallegos, CPDT-KA

I'm a Certified Professional Dog Trainer with over 10 years of experience, specializing in service dog training.

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of helping countless clients train their dogs to become reliable, well-behaved service animals.

My approach to service dog training is centered around force-free, positive reinforcement. Research shows that this method is the most effective way to help dogs learn and make lasting behavior changes. Using rewards, treats, and praise, I've trained dogs of all breeds and ages to perform essential tasks, overcome behavioral challenges, and become dependable service companions.

Over the years, I've received countless messages from grateful clients who have seen significant improvements in their dogs' abilities and their own quality of life, due to the freedom + independence obtained thanks to their service dog. It's truly heartwarming to know that I've been able to make such a positive difference in their lives.

But the true heroes in all of this are the dogs + their parents (what I call the 'service dog team')!

Watching service dog teams learn and grow, and seeing the joy on your faces when their dog successfully performs their tasks, is what makes this job so incredibly rewarding.

If you're looking for a trainer who can help you train your dog to become a reliable service animal and create a stronger, more loving bond, look no further. Let's work together to create a happy, healthy, and well-trained service dog that you can rely on.
