When I adopted my first dog, I knew nothing about dog training. Without knowing any better, I blindly followed the advice on TV that said being the ‘alpha’ and showing our dogs ‘who’s boss’ was the correct way to train. I even won a contest with a famous TV dog trainer for his puppy training DVD, and I was SO excited to learn from who I thought was the best dog trainer in the world.
Long story short, I was immensely disappointed when his methods made my dog’s behavior worse.
When I sought other options, I was shocked to learn that I had been taught outdated dog training methods.
When I started learning from trainers who used science-backed force-free methods, I was surprised at how quickly my dog learned how to ‘heel.’ I now know that our dogs learn much faster when we work with them—not against them.
Force-free methods are also more fun! Rather than forcing our dogs to do certain behaviors using fear, we collaborate with our dogs – figuring out the underlying reason of why they are ‘misbehaving’ and providing that need in a more appropriate way that works for everyone in the household.
Through the power of collaboration, we empower our dogs to use their minds, improve their confidence, and build an incredible bond with us!
This is why I created COLLAB Dog Training – our goal is to teach pup parents the art & science of collaborating with our dogs, so you can enjoy a more peaceful life with your four-legged companion.
